Intro
My name is Isra Hilal, originally from Sudan, came from Qatar and now living in San Antonio, Texas. I speak English and Arabic fluently and have lived in diverse cultural and professional environments that shaped my adaptability and leadership. With over a decade of experience as a Senior Database Administrator and Section Head, I am now pursuing my M.S. in IT with a Cybersecurity concentration at UTSA, where I was honored as the 2025 Outstanding Graduate. I’m passionate about technology, learning, and mentoring others.
Personal Vision
My goal is to grow into a leadership role in cybersecurity, building on my experience in database administration, IT governance, incident response, and security risk analysis. Over the next few years, I aim to become a Cybersecurity Manager or GRC Specialist, helping organizations improve their resilience through effective risk assessment and proactive defense strategies. I’m passionate about working with teams that value data integrity, innovation, and continuous learning, and about mentoring others who want to make a real impact in the cybersecurity field.
Goals
I’m focused on gaining more hands-on experience in cybersecurity operations, risk management, and policy assurance. I’m seeking opportunities where I can apply my skills in incident response and risk assessment while contributing to a collaborative security team. My next steps include expanding my professional network, earning the CompTIA Security+ certification, and securing a role that allows me to grow toward cybersecurity leadership.
Entrepreneurial Projects
I am currently working part-time as a Graduate Assistant at the Alvarez College of Business. As part of my M.S. in IT with a Cybersecurity concentration, I work on projects focused on cybersecurity strategy and policy assurance, including developing BYOD and Acceptable Use Policies and conducting vulnerability assessments for financial institutions. My work also integrates machine learning using Python, risk analysis from both blue and red team perspectives, and IT strategy models, highlighted by a case study on Amazon AWS using tools such as SWOT, VIRO, and Blue Ocean Strategy.
Skills
I combine technical expertise, analytical thinking, and leadership experience. I have led database and cybersecurity teams, mentoring colleagues and fostering collaboration. Skilled in risk assessment, vulnerability analysis, and IT planning using tools like SWOT, VIRO, PESTEL, Value Chain Analysis, ICEDRIP, and Industry Life Cycle. Proficient with Oracle, SQL, Python, Wireshark, Snort, Nessus, and policy development, with strong communication, time management, and organizational skills to deliver results under pressure.
